Watching the World Forever Change

This semester, I enrolled in a class called, Environmental Biology. All I can say is, "Wow!" Please take a couple of minutes to watch some important videos I have linked below!

This is a video our professor showed the class. Blue represents cold temperatures, yellow represents, and red is hot. Watch what global warming looks like over the past 135 years.

In 10 years, we've witnessed 8 out of those 10 years be historical years for record-setting high temperatures. 95 degrees, 96 degrees, 97 degrees, 98 degrees, 99 degrees, 100 degrees, 101 degrees, 102 degrees; we're seeing a consistent rise in temperatures. When you think to yourself, "Man, it feels even hotter this summer than it did last summer!" That's because it's true. Temperatures are increasing world-wide. Blistering hot temperatures aren't the only downside to global warming. Watch this second video of what warmer temperatures are doing to ice glaciers in the coldest parts of the world.

More ice has broken and melted in the last 10 years than it has in the past 100 years. That means our generation has increased the rate of deterioration of the ice shelf by 100%.

People think, "Oh, it's just melting ice. It won't affect us." Wrong. We're seeing those effects now as record-high sea level is recorded. Since 1880, sea level has risen 8 inches.

It's predicted that in our century alone, we'll see an increase in sea level by 2-7 feet or 24-84 inches!!! That's insane. Below, I've linked an "interactive map" that will allow you to see how rising sea levels could affect your area directly. Our area in Savannah, GA would be directly affected!

Just in the next ten years, we will see drastic changes to beloved areas like Tybee Island, Hilton Head Island, Miami, Lousiana, and so on and so forth! By the time the glaciers completely melt, these areas and the cities that surround them will be underwater. These changing conditions will force people to move and relocate.

These conditions are already forcing people to think ahead and double-check about purchasing a home in a potential flood zone. If you don't know if your home is in a flood zone, do your research and look now.

Knowledge is power. We may not be able to reverse what damage has already been done, but we can work together to do our parts as individuals and continue to spread awareness, reduce harmful waste, and leave a greener footprint for future generations.

I hope you found this informative!
